About The Sanctuary for Unwanted Animals

We are a non-profit organization relying solely on donations and the
generosity of the founder Mary Jane Carvel.

In 1980, Mary Jane Carvel had a vision to create a sanctuary for
God's creatures who had been abandoned or abused and needed a
safe haven.  Although Mary Jane has encountered many road blocks
along the way, she  never gave up on her dream to save animals.

In 1982, Mary Jane bought and donated 2 1/2 acres of land in
Brookshire, Texas  to the Sanctuary for Unwanted Animals.
However, in 1983, Mary Jane learned that many animals were being
taken off the streets of Houston and killed in decompression
chambers.  At that time she decided to turn all of her efforts to
stopping this cruel and brutal torture.  After pleading with many
groups and organizations she finally turned her efforts to the
Houston City Council and WON!

In 1985, after several years of meetings, writing letters and the
non-stop drive of Mary Jane Carvel and Tom MacLennan the
decompression chambers were destroyed and more humane
methods of euthanizing animals were established.

Sadly, even in America today, many animals are still badly abused,
starved and abandoned. We strive to save those animals from this
brutality and give them a true Sanctuary for Unwanted Animals.
